Mum of Boys

Me and the boys at the Zoo.Hi, I’m Jo. Mum to 2 gorgeous little boys, currently aged 3 and 5 years. We live in Auckland (New Zealand).

I have run my own website design business since 2000. I mostly design custom WordPress websites with blogs for small businesses. Visit WordPress Websites if you would like me to design you a website like this one.

Hobbies – JewelleryI started creating bead jewellery a couple of years ago when we were living in Melbourne. We lived walking distance from “Funky Lula’s” Bead Shop in Mornington and after a basic “how to make a necklace” course, I was hooked. The number of times, our dog Tia thought she was being taken for a lovely walk and ended up tied up outside the bead shop…BB (Before beads), I had a huge collection of earrings and never left the house without a pair on my ears. Now I wear a different necklace everyday and make a new one whenever I need a spot of retail therapy.

Hi, just found your website by going to the Woodzone website… it’s almost like seeing a parallel life, how spooky. Don’t think I have met you before, but I live in Clevedon/Hunua and also run a graphic and web design business. I also have 2 preschool boys (almost 2yrs and 3 yrs old) and am into healthy eating.
If i had time to blog it probably wouldn’t look too different from yours!
    Anyway, thought I’d say ‘Hey’!
    all the best,
    Penny Claridge

    Hi Penny,
Talk about coincidences. I wonder if we look alike too???
I’ll have a look at your website.

    Hi Jo
Firstly, congrats on the website, it’s great to find someone taking the time to share these things that make family life richer and healthier. My second child (a sister to 2 and a half year old Adam) is due in a couple of weeks and I have been spurred on to research some healthier options for feeding and caring for my family.
We too use Eco cleaning and grooming products, plus masses of baking soda and lemon juice! The microwave is being replaced with a steam cooker, with the fan oven getting the reheating and defrosting jobs from now on. I’ve been reading research about how the electro-magnetic feilds from all our appliances affect our kids appetites and general health, it’s horrifying!
Food is such a major struggle isn’t it? Tossing up at the moment about butter vs marg as our canola lite desn’t seem to have too many numbers in it? Your thoughts? What yoghurt do you buy?
I am going to be talking to supermarket suppliers soon, to ask them about crates of irradiated food that are not labelled as such once transferred to the shelves. It makes me furious that there is such a lack of information about the quality and safety of our food and how it has been treated. I’m really pissed at MacDonalds (nothing new) for marketing their ‘fruit drink’ as part of their ‘healthy options’ – it’s just wet sugar when you read the label! I’m angry at the mother who bought Rashuns and Cheezels to my toddler morning tea the other day. I’m frustrated that the ‘gentle’ cleanser I bought at a friends selling party thing made my eyes sting for two days. I’m sad that NO children have been born toxin-free in decades. Without wanting to sound dramatic I think all parents need to be vigilant and educated because big business/govt do not have our best interests at heart.

    Hi Emily,
Thanks for all your great comments. It sounds like you’re cleaning your life up the same way we’re trying to. Have you discovered the Healthy Food Guide magazine yet? My best resource for healthy food info and easy recipes.
We’re currently buying De Winkel or Puhoi yoghurts which seem to have the least additives and the most good bacteria. Unfortunately also the most expensive. We mostly use them on top of fruit as dessert and I use plain yoghurt instead of milk in mashed potato, muffins etc.
Always talking about making our own yoghurt but don’t have a hot water cupboard at present so still talking. Keep in touch and let me know if you find any good products I can add to my healthy shopping list.
